About Janelle

Janelle Mason-Olivo was born and raised in Pontiac, Michigan and began her martial arts training at the age of 6. She studied and trained in the art of Koei Kan Karate Do, a traditional Japanese, full contact fighting art.

She began competing in karate competitions at the age of 7, and went on to win numerous awards in forms, fighting and weapons, in both traditional and non-traditional style tournaments.

In 1991, at the age of 15, Janelle moved with her family to Miami, Florida to open a martial arts school where she taught along side her father and trained full time for competition. She competed in international competitions and became 6x international champion in forms, fighting and weapons in her art. She represented the United States in Athens, Greece and Porta La Cruz, Venezuela and was a member of the USA Women’s Karate Team.

Janelle’s passion for the martial arts and fitness motivated her to create classes for individuals seeking to obtain excellent conditioning and a toned, sculpted physique without actually fighting or studying the martial arts. After training for many years, she understood the need to offer variety and to continue to challenge participants. She became an AFAA certified personal trainer, fitness counselor and aerobics instructor and began combining her training methods with weight training and created Chizel Fitness TM.

Janelle owns the Academy of Koei Kan Karate Do in Hollywood, Florida and teaches Koei Kan Karate and Chizel Fitness classes along with her instructor staff. Her goal is to continue offering classes that challenge fitness enthusiasts of all levels so that they will stay committed to fitness and achieve their goals.
